Backflow Prevention
Under State and County regulations and Alpine Springs County Water District Cross-Connection Control Ordinance 2-88, the Cross Connection and Backflow Prevention Program is designed to protect the drinking water system from the possibility of contamination through cross connections. With your cooperation, we can increase the effectiveness of this important program!
Backflow typically occurs due to a "cross-connection," which is an actual or potential link between your clean water system and a non-potable source (like a garden hose, irrigation system, or boiler). Backflow can cause our drinking water to become polluted or contaminated. To prevent this from occurring, the District requires backflow prevention devices be installed to protect our drinking water by ensuring water only flows in one direction. These devices must be tested annually.
Please have this field test performed by a certified backflow assembly tester, possessing a valid Cal-Nevada A.W.W.A. certified backflow assembly tester card. If the field test discloses that the assembly cannot pass such a test, please have the necessary repairs made and the assembly retested. Upon completion of a satisfactory test submit to the District the following: field test and maintenance report, a copy of the tester’s current certification, and gauge calibration report. Many times, the tester will submit these reports for you. These documents must be submitted annually to the District by August 31st each calendar year showing the testing was completed within the previous 12 months. Per the Placer County department of health services, noncompliance with these requirements will result in your water service being shut off to protect the rest of the drinking water system from the possibility of contamination through cross connections.
Here is a list of backflow prevention testers that are certified to service your device.
